A message from the President

Hi all,
It has become apparent that a need for an update on what is happening in our club is required.
Firstly, some not great news,
Our Manager David, has tendered his resignation, reluctantly we have accepted it, Davids reason, is a private family matter.
David will finish with us on 8/11/2024.
We the committee, will be actively seeking a replacement for David, (I must say he will not be easy to replace)
We wish David all the best in wherever his next endeavour takes him.

A lot of you would have seen notices advertising a special general meeting.
The date is as advertised. The reason is also as advertised.
To discuss the upcoming bar renovations.
A bit of background as to how the decision to renovate the bars has come about:
It has been through a few AGM's where it has been discussed and slide shows presented. There was never any objections in fact it was always accepted as going to be done and lets do it.
Over the past 3 or more years we (committees)have looked at ways of funding the project
We tried banks, they will not give a loan where it will be serviced or partly serviced by Pokie machine money and are not allowed to, re Department Of Internal Affairs gaming licence requirements.
So where to from there,
And thanks to the great foresight of past committees, presidents and patrons, in purchasing two shops on Greerton road a solution was found.
Number 673 ( off licence)
Was a great fit.
Like a lot of you we as committees were/are not in favour of selling assets.
As was explained at the last AGM, there is a council easement between the two shops meaning even if we had the money and inclination, we would not be able to extend the club in to the area, so what do we need it for.
Could we borrow on it, and would it be enough. Would it mean putting the club into debt, Not ideal, as records show that clubs with debt in today’s environment struggle and maybe eventually close.
Decision: sell if price is right, to allow us to do much needed renovations to both bar areas as they are in dire need of repair.
Bars are on the verge of rotting out under the facade.
The chillers, compressors, and infrastructure around the bars are aged and will soon if not now need replacement.
Is it worth repairing both bars or revamp modernise/ future proof club.
One central bar was decided.
With a centralisation of infrastructure, by building new chiller in underused basement space.
Surly a WIN, WIN,for club, new bars, new infrastructure, modernisation of club, and most of all NO DEBT,
With funds on hand to complete modernisation, with future plans to re carpet, repaint, modernise reception and maybe even a lift of club from outside with fresh paint and signage.

Bruce Heappey
