A progess report on the renovation (New Bar )
Hello Members,
As is the way, when doing a renovation on an older building there are always some unexpected issues that may arise.
This has happened here - when the Builders went through to the Artie Stewart Lounge, previous builders had forgotten
(or maybe at the time it was not required) to strenghten the building with steel bracing.
The other issue that has arisen is the Council want you to fix things that had been done in the past.
This is the case with our fire security system which was adequate previously but now does not comply.
The good things that has come from this is that we are future proofing as we go, but this has pushed out the finish date of the project.
You may have noticed a change in the car parking arrangement with the Manager now having a designated park along side the Presidents park, Please respect this and don't park in either of these parks - without permission
Remember, I am always available to answer your queries, as are my brilliant committee.
Bruce Heappey
President

Getting to know your Committee
This week
Wiripo Brown
Tena Tatou Katoa, e mihi Mahana hoki Kia Tatou, ko Wiripo Brown toku ingoa.
My name is Wiripo also known as Wi, you might ask, such a european surname ,well back in the 1800’s Alfred Nesbit Brown Archdeacon Brown was doing missionary work he agreed for our ancestor to take his name, Brown (Stop me and ask me about it.)
When I finished school it was time to leave home ( I hated it ) being away from parentsI moved to Auckland from College for work, from Psychiatric Care to International Tele Communications, I liked the shift work, I enjoyed emergency operator 111 work, Auckland was a colourful life I had lots of good friends just like the Citz Club, I played lots of sport, indoor basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball, men’s netball undefeated for 7 years, but my favourite sport was swimming butterfly and long distance, We played against the Army Papakura and Navy
Significant events for me while living in Auckland was 50 years ago, I walked from Northland to Wellington on the very first land march walked over the Auckland Harbour Bridge, what an experience, another was the Mt Erebus Disaster 1979 in which a Manager from our tolls telephone exchange was on board, I was supervising that night very sad then the Queen St Riot 1984, I had to walk down Queen St that night, glass every where, there was the Springbox protest March to Eden Park, that was frightening, the French Bombing of the Rainbow Warrior Auckland 1985, I heard the explosion from home,
Back to the here and now, I was nominated for the executive. We have wonderful working colleagues, from Executive members to Manager, Vice President and President, we’ve had other staff that are no longer with us and hope they are resting well. I look forward to continuing to working for you and our club .
We have a dynamic executive committee, all willing to learn the ropes from other well experienced staff.
I invite you to approach me or other executive members at any time should you require help.
